1. Gamble

Let’s be honest, most people come to Vegas for the party scene and gambling. Every casino and bar will have some sort of risk-taking game for you to try.

Most of the casinos have a rewards program too. If you are going to be gambling and spending a lot, sign up for one – they are usually free and come with some added perks.

2. Day drinking / Bar Hopping

There is no shortage of alcohol in this city. Packed to the brim with bars and casinos offering free drinks to gamblers, this town will definitely quench your thirst. From 100 oz frozen drinks to nickel beers, this place has it all.

3. See a Show

Las Vegas Human Nature

Vegas has several residency shows such as Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani, Calvin Harris and many more. Most hotels offer additional shows that range from magicians, like Penn & Teller or Criss Angel, a variety of Cirque du Soleil shows, comedians, cover groups, impersonators and live musicals.

If you are into the 1950s-60s DooWop style music, check out Human Nature.

We saw it with Samantha’s parents and it was a great time of mixing oldies music all the way up to present day pop! There is a never ending supply of adult shows as well.

Both erotic dancers and Magic Mike shows a plenty!

And don’t forget about the FREE show every day courtesy of the water fountain outside of the Bellagio.

Click here for a schedule of when you can see the fountains, but generally, every half hour during the day and every 15 minutes during the evenings.

Shows are about 3-5 minutes in length and play along to a variety of music from classical to modern pop. Fun for all ages.

Make sure you make time to check it out!

4. LINQ Promenade and High Roller

Las Vegas Linq High Roller - things to do in las vegas during the day

LINQ is one of the hotels situated nicely in the middle of the more modern Strip. Part of Caesar’s Palace, this casino has the High Roller, which is currently the world’s tallest ferris wheel. With great views, this quick 30 minute ride is a great time for all ages.

Want to party on the ferris wheel?  They offer open bar happy hours during the ride too.

This might have been one of the most fun things to do in Las Vegas during the day. To read more, click here.

Las Vegas Promenade

In the mood for a stroll? The LINQ Promenade sits in between the LINQ Casino and the Flamingo and offers a slew of restaurants from an Irish Pub and Mexican Cantina to In-N-Out Burger.

You will most definitely find the type of food you are looking for here.

5. Indulge in Food

There is no shortage of buffets or food in Vegas. You seemingly can’t go more than 10 feet down the Strip without seeing a restaurant or bar offering some yummy food to take the edge off of the alcohol or curb your appetite from gambling.

Looking for an upscale restaurant with a view? The Stratosphere offers both lunch and dinner in their “Top of the World” restaurant, complete with a rotating dining room. You can see all of Vegas in 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Quite the sight to see while munching on a grilled cheese!

From the restaurant, you can gain free access to the observation deck on top of the Stratosphere where you can shop, grab an ice cream or adult beverage and continue to enjoy the view.

You can also watch people seeking a thrill jump off the top of the building via bungee….

6. Thrill Rides

No thanks.

If the copious amounts of booze, food, and gambling don’t satiate you, there are some crazy thrill rides offered throughout Vegas.

New York New York Roller coaster – Located on top of the New York New York Casino, the Big Apple Coaster was the world’s first coaster to feature a 180-degree twist and dive maneuver.

Whether it’s the taxi-cab themed trains or the station modeled after a NYC subway station, this ride has many elements that will make you feel like you’re in downtown Manhattan.

At the Stratosphere, you can jump off the building (because, why not?!) and plummet down 880 feet (270 meters), strap into a spinning claw hanging off the building, board a roller coaster seat and seesaw off the building (x-scream video above), or free fall up and down the needle!

7. Go Shopping

If you have any change left in your pocket after the casinos, there are several hotels that offer high-class shopping.  The Paris Hotel, Venetian, and Palazzo have European-themed street-style shopping, just indoors.  You can beat the heat as well as burn a hole in your pocket here.

8. Fremont Street a.k.a. Old Town

Las Vegas Fremont Street
Stepping away from the glitz and glamour of today’s Las Vegas Strip, Fremont Street, or Old Town, offers a peek into what Vegas might have been during the times of yesteryear. Home to famous casinos such as the Golden Nugget, this part of town has a completely different feel and vibe than the Strip.

You’ll see some street performers and live bands here, but keep in mind that if you take a picture with a street performer, you’ll need to pay.

9. Welcome to Las Vegas Sign

vegas sign sam and chris

As one of the most instragrammable places in Las Vegas, you can’t visit Vegas and not take a picture underneath the iconic sign. Original to Vegas, this sign was made by Betty Willis in 1959.

If you plan on visiting it, go first thing in the morning or after the sun goes down. It’s in the median of the Strip headed towards the airport and there is ZERO shade to hide from the 100+℉ degree (38℃) temperatures.

Pretty self-explanatory here

P.S. there is usually a guy there who will offer to take the picture for you….as you might expect, he’ll also expect a tip.

10. Pool Party

What could be better than sharing an undersized pool with 100 strangers?

Doing it with a drink of course! Honestly, it was a really fun time and we met some interesting people.

The cocktail of the day was $31 for a large (pictured below), so you might want to pre-game to save some money.

This is from the Marquee Day Club Pool Party at the Cosmopolitan Hotel. Get there early for a spot or it’s standing room only. Daybeds and Cabanas run in the $1,000s.

BONUS: Day trip to the Grand Canyon via helicopter

Hoover Dam from the helicopter

The Grand Canyon is situated only 45 minutes away from Las Vegas airport via helicopter. With several companies offering limousine rides to and from your hotel, this half day adventure is worth every penny.

Sundance Helicopters offers 8 to 10 tours each day, lasting approximately 3.5 hours hotel to hotel, and are equipped with a champagne picnic lunch at the base of the Canyon.

On the outbound trip, you pass right by the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, and on the return trip, you fly right down the Las Vegas Strip for a peaceful view of the chaos below.

Truly amazing experience! This is a pricey day-trip excursion but we wanted to add this to our things to do in Las Vegas during the day guide since it was incredible.

If you have the time and money, we highly suggest considering this!

No picture can do this place justice!
