  •        EmailOctopus | Email Service Provider – this service is used for delivery of email updates and newsletters. We store your name and email address for the purpose of delivering these communications. Every email includes a way to opt out of future mailings.   •        WordPress | Blog Publishing Platform – We use WordPress.org to publish this blog and allow comments on our site. WordPress requires visitors who want to post a comment to enter a name and email address. By default WordPress does not share any personal data with anyone.   •        Jetpack | Activity Tracking – This service provides us with anonymous information regarding post and page views, outbound link clicks, referring URLs, search engine terms, and user’s country. For more information, please see Jetpack’s Privacy Policy.
  •        Gravatar | Comment Provider – When you leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to assist in spam detection.   •        SiteGround | Web Hosting Provider – SiteGround is our web hosting provider and acts as a data processor. They own the servers where our site data is stored and may occasionally need to access or process that data, whether manually (fixing a technical issue) or automatically (running backups).   •  Social Warfare  – this service is used to all users to share Website content on user’s social channels. Social Warfare will connect using the user’s social channels, but no information is stored on the Website.
  • Journey by Mediavine | Advertising – The Website works with Journey by Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising. For details on how Mediavine and its advertising partners collect and use data, see the Advertising section below and Mediavine’s Privacy Policy.
  • Travelpayouts | Affiliate Network – The Website uses Travelpayouts to place travel booking links and widgets (flights, hotels, tours, insurance, etc.). For more information, see Travelpayouts’ Privacy Policy.
  • Viator | Tours & Activities Affiliate – The Website participates in the Viator (a Tripadvisor company) affiliate program, through which we link to bookable tours, activities, and experiences. If you click a Viator link, you may be redirected to Viator’s site, which may set its own cookies and collect data to attribute bookings and commissions back to us.   • Beacons | Checkout & Payment Processing – We use Beacons to process purchases of our consulting services and digital products (such as the ebook and trip planning guide). When you make a purchase, Beacons collects your name, email address, and payment information on our behalf. Boozing Abroad does not directly store your full payment card details; this is handled by Beacons and its payment processors. For more information, see Beacons’ Privacy Policy.
  • ManyChat | Instagram & Facebook Messenger Automation – We use ManyChat to automate replies and deliver content when you comment on or message our Instagram or Facebook posts (for example, triggering a DM with a link when you comment a keyword). ManyChat may collect your Instagram or Facebook profile information and message content in order to deliver these automated responses. For more information, see ManyChat’s Privacy Policy.
  • Google Live Transcribe & Notification | Call Transcription – We use Google’s Live Transcribe app to generate real-time, on-screen text of consultation calls so we can accurately capture trip details. Per Google’s own app documentation, audio is not stored after it’s processed into text, and transcriptions are not saved by default (Live Transcribe offers an opt-in to keep them on-device for 3 days). This service is covered under Google’s Privacy Policy.

Links to Other Websites: Boozing Abroad contains links to other blogs and websites. These blogs and websites are not governed by this Privacy Policy but instead have their own. Boozing Abroad has no control over how other blogs and websites collect and use your information.

At this time, your personal information is not shared with any other third-party applications. This list may be amended from time to time in the Website’s sole discretion.

Except when required by law, we will not sell, distribute, or reveal your email addresses or other personal information without your consent; however, we may disclose or transfer personal information collected through the Website to third parties who acquire all or a portion of our business, which may be the result of a merger, consolidation, or purchase of all or a portion of our assets, or in connection with any bankruptcy or reorganization proceeding brought by or against us.

Email Marketing

You have the option of opting in or unsubscribing from our email list. By subscribing and opting in, you agree to receive newsletters, updates, messages, promotional materials, and any other content related to this website. When you send an email, your email message along with your email address and responses are saved for communication purposes with you. This information is kept confidential and we do not share, sell or trade your email information with third parties except as otherwise stated in this privacy policy.

If you are in the European Union and opt-in to receive any of our free products or services and/or purchase any products or services through our website then you will be subscribed to receive our free email newsletter once you affirmatively consent to it. We are in compliance with the GDPR along with the email marketing service we use to collect your data.

Affiliate Program Participation

Boozing Abroad is also a participant in the Travelpayouts affiliate network, which powers travel booking links and widgets (flights, hotels, tours, car rentals, travel insurance) featured on the Website.

If you click a Travelpayouts link or interact with a Travelpayouts widget, you may be redirected to a third-party travel merchant or booking platform. That merchant may set its own cookies, collect its own data, and apply its own pricing, terms, and privacy practices in order to process your booking and attribute any resulting commission to us. Boozing Abroad does not control and is not responsible for the data practices of these third-party merchants.

Boozing Abroad is also a participant in the Viator affiliate program. Viator is a Tripadvisor company that lets us link directly to bookable tours, activities, and experiences at destinations we feature. If you click a Viator link, a cookie is placed on your browser to track the referral and attribute any resulting commission to us. Boozing Abroad has no control over Viator’s own booking process, pricing, cancellation terms, or data practices, and is not responsible for them.

TRIP CONSULTING & DIGITAL PRODUCT CLIENTS

If you book a trip consulting session or purchase a digital product (such as our ebook or trip planning guide), we collect additional personal information beyond what’s described above, including your name, email address, and any trip details you share with us (such as travel dates, destinations, budget, and preferences) in order to provide the service you’ve purchased.

If we conduct a consultation call with you, we generate a written transcript of the call (we do not retain audio recordings) for the purpose of preparing your trip planning materials. We use this information only to deliver the service you’ve requested and do not share your trip details or call transcripts with third parties except as needed to process payment (see Beacons, above) or as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy.

We retain consulting client information for as long as needed to provide the service and for our own recordkeeping, and will delete it upon request as described in the “Rights Related to Your Personal Information” section, unless we’re required to keep it for legal or accounting purposes.

Google advertising cookies

Journey by Mediavine now requires a consent management platform (they partner with ConsentManager and provide one free to publishers). If you don’t have a cookie banner live on the site yet, that’s a compliance gap for both Mediavine and GDPR, not just a privacy policy wording issue. Worth confirming this is set up in your Mediavine dashboard.

HOW WE PROTECT YOUR DATA

SSL Certificate – is a service provided and installed through SiteGround, our web host. HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is the secure version of HTTP, the protocol over which data is sent between your browser and the website you are connected to. The “S” at the end of HTTPS stands for “Secure” meaning all communication between your browser and the Website are encrypted.

Akismet – This anti-spam plugin is used on Boozing Abroad to protect against spam. Akismet collects information about visitors who comment on sites that use the Akismet anti-spam service. The information they collect depends on how Boozing Abroad has set up Akismet for this Site, but typically includes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL (along with other information directly provided by the commenter such as their name, username, email address, and the comment itself).

Though we try our best we can not guarantee the security of information. However, we promise to notify suitable authorities of data breaches. We will also notify you if there is a threat to your rights or interests. We will do everything we reasonably can to prevent security breaches and to assist authorities should any breaches occur.

DISCLOSURE

From time to time, Boozing Abroad works with travel brands and tourism boards in order to experience and promote specific destinations, activities, accommodations, etc. Sometimes we receive compensation as a result of these partnerships which can be in the form of cash, free activities, tours, accommodation, etc.

Regardless of who foots the bill, we will always provide you with honest and unbiased opinions of said experiences. When we partner with outside brands, we always retain full editorial control and we will never work with brands we do not personally believe in or support. Everything recommended to you is something we personally use/do/have done/believe in ourselves.
