The Best Breakfast in Charleston

1. Miller’s All Day 

• Breakfast Hours: all day (as their name states)
  • Monday-Friday: 8 AM – 3 PM
  • Saturday-Sunday 8 AM – 4PM
• Reservations: Sorry folks, no dice.
• Must try dish: cinnamon roll

Miller’s All Day believes that breakfast is the most important meal of the day (and we can’t argue with that – especially a yummy breakfast in Charleston).

Located on Lower King Street, this downtown brunch spot gets packed fast so get there early or late in the afternoon (peak time is between 10 AM – 12:30 PM).

They offer both Bloody Mary and Mimosa flights so come thirsty too!

2. Poogan’s Porch 

• Breakfast Hours:
  • Monday – Sunday: 9 AM – 3 PM
• Reservations: Yes – highly recommended
• Must try dish: anything with their buttermilk fried chicken in it – it’s their signature dish

Hidden away on Queen Street in a classic Victorian House, Poogan’s Porch is another good spot for breakfast and brunch in Charleston.

Established in 1976, Poogan’s Porch is one of the oldest independently-owned restaurants in Charleston which means you will find the best of southern charm here.

The offer a variety of morning drinks like the classics bloody mary or mimosa, but they also have several signature cocktails as well. Not feeling booze? No worries, they have mocktails as well.

3. Grace & Grit

  • Saturday: 9:30 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Sunday: 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM
• Reservations: Yes, look for a tab on their website
• Must try dish: Grit Flight 

A local family-run restaurant, Grace & Grit is in Mount Pleasant right over the bridge so if you are in downtown Charleston, it isn’t hard to get to.  And it’s a great way to kick-start your weekend in Charleston.

Grits are staples in the south and if you haven’t tried them before, this is definitely the spot. With good prices and locally-sourced food, this place offers a coastal homey feel which is only amplified by their home cooking.

Make sure you grab the creative Breakfast Old Fashioned or the Honeysuckle Martini to add to your scrumptious meal.

4. Callie’s Hot Little Biscuits 

• Breakfast Hours: Upper King Street: 8 AM – 2 PM; City Market: 8 AM – 4 PM
• Reservations: No, since there isn’t really seating. Be prepared to wait in line and eat on the go.
• Must try dish: Pimento Cheese Biscuit

Callie’s Hot Little Biscuits makes the list for best breakfast in Charleston despite the fact that there are only 6 chairs for seating. A family-owned establishment, Callie’s makes handmade biscuits daily to deliver the most amazing breakfast sandwiches.

There are various sandwich options (1 is a build-your-own) as well as gluten-free biscuits so all members can enjoy a sandwich! Did you even really go to the South if you didn’t eat a southern biscuit (and have picture proof of it)? 

The coffee is amazing and a great pick-me-up addition to your sandwich!

There are two locations in the downtown Charleston area: Upper King Street and the City Market. If you wake up late and need a biscuit mid-afternoon, the City Market location is open until 4!

5. Page’s Okra

  • Monday – Friday: 7 AM – 11 AM (breakfast)
  • Saturday – Sunday: 8 AM – 3 PM (brunch)
• Reservations: yes, recommended
• Must try dish: Cinnamon Bun Waffle Breakfast

With over 9,000 Google reviews at the time of writing, you know this place has to be good. Known for their generous portions, Page’s Okra is a solid stop for breakfast in Charleston, especially when you are hungry.

In addition to their scrumptious food selection, Page’s Okra has the #1 voted Bloody Mary in Charleston. When we visited, I tried the Bloody Mary with Basil Vodka and it did NOT disappoint.

Their bar menu focuses on local spirits and craft breweries which makes this a one-stop-shop for all your local food and booze needs!

For food, I tried the crab cake benedict. It was AH-mazing!

6. Daps Breakfast & Imbibe

  • Sunday – Tuesday, Thursday – Saturday: 8 AM – 2 PM
  • Wednesday: Closed
• Reservations: Nope
• Must try dish: Fruity Pebble Pancakes

As their name suggests, Daps Breakfast & Imbibe places equal priority on breakfast and booze. Their mission is to be all-inclusive and you will find the breakfast menu does just that. 

With cocktail names like “Pimped out Gucci Suit” and “Catch You on the Flippity Flip”, you are sure to have a great meal in this fun, casual atmosphere.

7. Big Bad Breakfast

• Breakfast Hours:
  • Daily 7 AM – 2:30 PM
• Reservations: Nope, walk-in only
• Must try dish: Any of the Skillet dishes!

We’ve had the pleasure of going to Big Bad Breakfast twice while venturing out for brunch. Known for their Southern style options, there is no shortage of the classics available here…and in massive portions.

Arguably one of the best pancakes in town, Big Bad Breakfast has such an extensive menu that even the pickiest of eaters could find something to eat. It’s also one of the larger restaurants with loads of seating, so while there is typically a wait, you can sit some larger parties.

No reservations are excepted and breakfast is served daily from 7AM-2:30PM. You can join the waitlist online and enjoy a cocktail or coffee while you wait.

8. PopUp Bagels

• Breakfast Hours: Daily 7 AM – 4 PM
• Reservations: No, it’s a walk-in counter
• Must try dish: Everything bagel with scallion cream cheese

PopUp Bagels opened its first South Carolina location in July 2026, bringing its viral bagel concept to downtown Charleston. The chain started during the pandemic when founder Adam Goldberg began baking bagels in his Connecticut backyard and giving them away through a pickup window. It’s since grown into a multi-state operation because they are just that good.

The bagels are kept simple: plain, everything, poppy seed, salt, and sesame, paired with rotating schmear flavors on top of the standard plain and scallion cream cheeses. The whole experience is built around “Grip, Rip, and Dip” where you tear the bagel apart and dip the pieces into a cup of schmear rather than slicing and spreading it.

This is a great on the go option if you want some carb loading before exploring Charleston.

9. Island Provisions Downtown Charleston

  • Monday – Friday: 7 AM – 6 PM
  • Saturday: 8 AM – 6 PM
  • Sunday: 8 AM – 4 PM
• Reservations: No, counter service
• Must try dish: Homemade Pop Tarts

Island Provisions is a cafe that is well known for serving delicious coffee, (especially their lattes) and a wide variety of fresh, breakfast sandwiches, and bagels, alongside a full lunch and evening menu that adds beer and wine after 3 PM.

Popular picks include the Boss Bagel and the Somewhat Healthy bagel but they also make their own pop tarts in house which might make you rethink buying the ones in the grocery store again.

10. Bonus: Jackrabbit Filly 

• Breakfast Hours:
  • Wednesday – Saturday 11 AM – 2:30 PM (lunch only, no Sunday brunch)
• Reservations: Yes, recommended given how limited their hours are
• Must try dish: Egg Foo Young

Jackrabbit Filly specializes in Chinese cuisine with a twist and is one of the top things to do in North Charleston, SC for food. They have limited hours and a small seating area so either go early or be prepared to wait.

Jackrabbit Filly is known for its shareable, heritage-driven Chinese American dishes, and reservations for lunch fill up fast given the limited hours.

It’s important to note that Jackrabbit Filly is so popular that the majority of seating is reservation only. You might get lucky walking in, but prepare in advance if you want a table. Lunch runs Wednesday through Saturday, 11 AM – 2:30 PM.
